Problem: the confirmation emails are not sent out

Editorial note: the confirmation email feature used to be named the autoresponder email.

Here are some confirmation email troubleshooting tips:
1) Make sure the confirmation is enabled and all of the confirmation settings are filled in.

2) In version 3.xx, Some people want to move the Email Address field position on the form. This is done by setting the standard “Email Address field” to ‘Not Available’ (disabled), then setting one of the extra fields for the Email field. If you do this, the confirmation email will NOT WORK. The solution is to upgrade version 4.xx, and make sure the Email Address field is not set to ‘Disabled’ on the Fields tab, then delete the other Email field you had set.
In version 4.xx, all the fields can be re-arranged with the drag and drop Field settings interface. Make sure the Email Address field is not set to Disabled on the Fields tab.
3) Some servers will reject an email when the FROM and TO address are the same. So make sure when you test the form that you fill out a different email address than the confirmation Email “From” address is set to.

Make sure you followed the steps 1-3 above.

Do you still have the confirmation email will not send problem?
Make sure the email you are testing to receive the confirmation is working. Try a different test address or use the Email test tool on the Tools tab of the form edit page. The Email test can sometimes display helpful diagnostics information, such as server errors.

Did you receive the test email?
Yes: some servers will reject an email when the FROM and TO address are the same. So make sure when you test the form that you fill out a different email address than the confirmation Email “From” address is set to.
No: Your server will not send to that address, try a different email address at a different domain.

Are you testing with a web mail address like gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.?
Try a ISP email address, not a webmail one because some servers like GoDaddy can block sending to web mail addresses unless you configure it in a specific way. (see next question)
