Email problem with special characters: á, ñ, ä, ö, ü, é, à

Question:
I am having an email problem with special characters: á, ñ, ä, ö, ü, é, à
The characters look differently in the received email, something is wrong.

Answer:

For best results with special characters use these settings:

PHP version
Log into the contact form Admin page and set this setting:
Site Settings – Site Character Encoding: “ISO-8859-1″.

On the form edit page set these settings:
uncheck the setting: “Enable upper case alphabet correction.”
Change this setting like this: Send E-mail function: “phpmailer”. (“PHP” will NOT work!)
Click update. (repeat for each form number you are using).

WordPress version
On the form edit page set these settings:
uncheck the setting: “Enable upper case alphabet correction.”
Change this setting like this: Send E-mail function: “WordPress”, or “phpmailer”. (“PHP” will NOT work!)
Click update. (repeat for each form number you are using).

Test an email.
